The Montague family came to this land for unknown reasons and remained mysterious. They built a large farm in the hills south of Pinwood. Their strange behavior has led to speculation that they were forced here by secretly financing and aiding smuggling. After the death of lord Cedric Montague of Evershade, the estate was left entirely to his eldest son. The eldest son was a silent little man named Theodore, who the housekeeper said was unable to leave the house because of years of illness. The second son, Sebastian, owns a small farm and a distillery. The younger son, Hugo Montague, did not like to write poetry. All the stories started from this family.

The main character is a man wearing a mask. (In the following content, he is called "Mask") As for why he's wearing a mask, it's because he's a demon hunter who walks through a place full of viruses and poisonous gases. For some reason, Mask, like some people in the village, has lost part of his memory. Mask gained basic combat and crafting abilities under Richard's guidance. After that, Mask received his first assignment from Pinwood Police Department - recycling Manor. The owner of the manor was unpaid for some reason and the bank had to take his house by force. However, the police are afraid of the terrible curse that led to the death of Cedric and the sickening of Theodore, so they find Mask and go with them. After some investigation. Mask kills the rebels in the house led by second son Sebastian and a fog monster summoned by younger son Hugo. Later, in the locked room of the basement, Mask found the eldest son who is eating dog food. At this time, the eldest son lost his mind and was fat like a pig.

The eldest son was later rescued but died in hospital. In the documents provided by the eldest son when he was awake, Cedric came to this land because of his obsession with alchemy and his fear of being discovered. He performed extensive brain experiments and claimed to have found the magic of immortality. It turns out that the method of eternal life is not the immortality of the physical body, but the preservation of memory. Is that death and reincarnation are carried with the memory of previous lives. After his death, Cedric kept all the notes and methods of the experiment in a secret place, and gave them to his eldest son, Theodore, because he thought Theodore was the most intelligent and rational. But unfortunately, the youngest son found out. The younger son peeked at the hidden book, but because he was afraid of the eldest brother secretly put the book back, but the book about the method of vertigo has always been in mind. Vertigo is the use of certain sounds or smells to make people see things that aren't there. This is why the younger son kept writing poems when he grew up. Because his poetry is the vehicle for vertigo. The younger son, who was obsessed with getting the notes, grew up and told the second son about the book. So they teamed up with drug and Vertigo to keep their brother under control. In the end the older brother lost his mind completely and the younger son got the book.

After that, Hugo did experiments according to the method of the book, and learned that his father did not leave a lot of so-called inheritance, and had to keep asking the bank for loans to support his experiment. But the experiment went wrong, and the gas leaked into the air and attacked people's brains. It also gives some dead people the ability to reanimate - triggering memories in physical cells. But the resurrected are very dull. They're just some physical memory carrier that just eats and moves.

Main story

The rest of the story revolves around seven different boss characters. The gas brought out the evil in them. Mask helps the police defeat 7 people, after learning that Hugo is not really dead and looking to kill Hugo.

主角是一名戴着面具的男子（下文称为“面具”）。他之所以戴着面具，是因为他是一位恶魔猎人，常年行走于充满病毒与毒气的区域。由于某种原因，面具和村中部分居民一样失去了部分记忆。在理查德的指导下，面具掌握了基础的战斗与制造技能。之后，他接受了来自品伍德警局的第一个任务——“回收庄园”。庄园的主人因为某种原因未能偿还债务，银行决定强制收回房产。然而，警察们因畏惧导致塞德里克死亡与西奥多患病的“可怕诅咒”，于是找到面具，让他一同前往。经过调查，面具击杀了以次子塞巴斯蒂安为首的反叛者，以及由幼子雨果召唤的迷雾怪物。后来，在地下室被锁的房间里，面具发现长子正在吃狗粮。此时的他已经彻底失去理智，身体臃肿如猪。

长子随后被救出，但最终在医院中去世。在他清醒时所提供的文件中揭示：塞德里克来到这片土地，是出于对炼金术的痴迷以及害怕被人发现。他曾进行过大量脑部实验，并声称自己发现了“不死的魔法”。事实证明，这种“永生”并非肉体的不朽，而是记忆的延续——即死亡与转世都能携带前世的记忆。塞德里克死前，将所有实验笔记与方法藏在秘密之地，并交给他认为最理智聪慧的长子西奥多。然而，不幸的是，幼子雨果发现了这件事。

雨果曾偷看那本隐藏的书，但出于对兄长的畏惧，又偷偷将书放回。然而书中关于“眩晕术”的内容却一直深印于他脑海。眩晕术是一种利用特定气味或声音，让人产生幻觉的技巧。这也是为何雨果长大后热衷于写诗——因为他的诗正是施展眩晕术的媒介。被笔记诱惑的雨果，成年后将秘密告诉了次子塞巴斯蒂安，于是两人合谋，借助药物与眩晕术控制长兄。最终，长兄彻底失去心智，而幼子成功夺得那本书。

之后，雨果依照书中方法进行实验，却发现父亲并未留下大量遗产，于是不得不不断向银行贷款维持研究。然而实验出了差错，气体泄漏到空气中，侵蚀人类大脑。这种气体还赋予部分死者“复活”的能力——让他们的肉体细胞重新唤醒记忆。但这些“复生者”极为迟钝，只是具备残余记忆的行尸走肉，只会进食和移动。

主线剧情
故事的剩余部分围绕七位不同的Boss角色展开。气体唤醒了他们内心的邪恶。面具协助警方击败这七人后，得知雨果其实并未死亡，于是踏上了追杀雨果的旅途。
